When I was growing up, my dad was a sculptor and my mom was a tailor, so I learned from early on that even if it wasn’t always easy, you could spend your life doing what you loved. I found my love in studying history, and now I get the opportunity teach university undergraduates. Gaining a deep connection to the past has also added new meaning the creative projects I undertake. I find pieces of my history in each new handmade endeavor. Making a pie takes me back to baking with my mom, as she let my siblings and I help roll out the dough. When I pick up my knitting needles, I remember those first lessons my grandma gave me more than a decade ago. Each new project gives me a comforting sense of connection to the creative people I have known throughout my life. Getting to write about those endeavors makes the connection between past and present all the more real, and something I am especially glad to share with all the other creative voices at fresh style.
