It’s so frustrating when your kiddo loses a mitten. Between trips to school and rushed loads of laundry, mittens are as notorious as socks for missing their mates. Rather than throwing away the stray mitten, why not repurpose it? We used this simple pink mitten to turn a “blah” cardigan into a beautiful butterfly sweater! Don’t have a plain sweater? Add your butterfly to a plain t-shirt, throw pillow, or tote bag!
1 plain cardigan
1 single mitten
2 small buttons
- Cut the mitten in half to create two mitten shapes. Cut the cuff bands off and discard. Machine wash and dry to felt the mitten shapes and prevent fraying.
- Place one half of the mitten on the sweater with thumb facing downward and stitch on with contrasting embroidery thread. Repeat on opposite side.
- Add more layers of stitching with other fun colors, if desired. Stitch on antennae, securing buttons at the end.
