It’s National Ice Cream Day and we’ve got the perfect DIY treat to celebrate! If making your own ice cream sandwich seems like too much of a messy hassle, or you’re bored with the same vanilla/chocolate chip cookie combination, then this trick opens up a world of possibilities.
Mix and match your favorite cookie and ice cream flavors to make a frozen dessert that caters to your personal taste. Ever wanted to try some pistachio between two chocolate chocolate-chip cookies? Or fancied white chocolate macadamia nut cookies with strawberry ice cream? For ours, we went for a salty-sweet combo with Häagen-Dazs Dulce De Leche ice cream and Udi’s Salted Caramel Cashew Cookies. Here’s how to make the ice cream sandwich flavor combination you’re craving:
Purchase a pint of your favorite ice cream. Turning the pint on its side, take a large, sharp knife and slice the pint (with the cardboard still in place). This will leave you with a perfect slice of ice cream.
Now, take two of your favorite cookies, sandwich the ice cream between them, and slide off the cardboard from the pint container.
Use a spoon to clear off any excess ice cream around the edges. Depending on the thickness of your ice cream slices, one pint will yield four or five sandwiches. Now, take a big bite and enjoy!
